Getting an issue with email deliveries, email bouncing, or email not sending at all?
The IT staff can help you, but they will ask you to share the email headers.
Email headers contain the information and data about the individual email. It tells what path the email has taken in between the sender and recipient.
Email headers can tell about:
- IP addresses
- Sender information
- Recipient information
- Mail servers
The information could be critical in troubleshooting email problems.
Find email headers in Gmail:
- From a browser, open Gmail.
- Open the email you want to check the headers for.
- Click on the three vertical dots to open the option box
- Click Show original.

On the next page, you will find the email header.


Find email headers in Outlook:
Outlook Desktop App
- Open Outlook
- Open the email you want to see the headers for
- Click File and then Properties

The headers will show in the “Internet headers” box.

Outlook Web Access
- Open Outlook
- Open the email you want to see the headers for
- Select the three dots (…) located at the upper-right corner
- Choose “View“ and then ‘View Message Source’.
